240 Tutoring is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our team and build great tools and services to help teachers. We are looking for someone to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team on new services designed to help teachers from education and becoming certified all the way to becoming seasoned educators. The ideal candidate has strong experience building scalable online services, is ready to join a growing remote team, and is passionate about helping others through great software.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with engineers and non-technical staff to develop both internal tools and customer-facing applications
- Provide recommendations on process and feature improvements
- Identify technical risks in new products and features and be able to provide solutions
- Ensure that services can be updated with zero downtime, can be easily scaled to match current traffic, and maintain low latency to provide a responsive experience to customers and the team
- Mentor less experienced developers as the team grows
- Develop ways to evaluate the quality of our study guide content and use it to predict success in certification tests
- Don't be a jerk
Qualifications:
- Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or related degree, or equivalent work experience
- 7+ years of experience writing production-level code, preferably in the context of scalable api services and web applications
- Ability to analyze code and find opportunities to optimize for both service latency and client load time
- Experience with nodejs, nosql databases, and react
- AWS operational experience
- Bonus points for experience with elasticsearch or redis
- Experience in mobile app development, machine learning, or services utilizing real-time or user-generated video content is also a plus
